Luna has dethroned Bella as the most chosen Dog name in the UK after it spent three years at the top of the list as the most popular.** The celestial-inspired name isn’t just a popular choice for dogs though, as Luna remains the top name for cats for the second year in a row.

With Simba, Nala and Loki all remaining in the top 10 for cat names, the big screen is still proving a source of inspiration for many. Leo and Poppy are the only new entrants into this year’s cat top 10, placing at number 8 and 10 respectively.

Ceri McMillan, pet insurance spokesperson at Go.Compare commented on the findings: “It is always so insightful to see the names that the UK are choosing for the pets each year. Since the end of 2022, we haven’t seen a lot of change in the names people are opting for and there is a lot of crossover between dogs and cats too. It is clear to see that there are certain trends and favourites that the UK are picking.”

Charlie was the number one choice for dog names in 2019 but has since fallen to the number nine spot, dropping two spots in the last year. Ceri added some predictions for the year ahead: “With some pretty major sporting events coming up this summer, we might see that inspire

people when it comes to naming their pets. The Paris Olympics and Men’s UEFA Euro 2024 will likely define the summer, so perhaps Mason or Jude will make an appearance in the 2024 list.

“With some big music stars heading to the UK this summer too, maybe some names will appear in both the music top 10 and the most popular pet names by the end of this year. Taylor, Bruce or even Avril might be on our list this time next year, who knows!”

“We know how much people’s pets mean to them, and how much thought goes into naming them. It is just as important to find the right pet insurance for your four-legged friends, so that should the worst happen your pet can receive proper care and protect your pocket.”

About Go.Compare

Go.Compare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.

It does not charge people to use its services and does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. Go.Compare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.

When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. It is this approach to comparing products that secured the company an invitation to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) in 2008, and it is still the only comparison site to be a member of this organisation.

Go.Compare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest and works with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.

Go.Compare is part of Future Plc and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
