Seas the day: what Brits love most about cruise holidays, revealed

Being able to visit multiple destinations in one trip is the best thing about going on a cruise, according to new research

Cruise holidays are a staple for many Brits, whether it’s a Caribbean getaway, a trip around the Mediterranean or a visit to the Norwegian Fjords. New research from Go.Compare travel insurance has revealed exactly what makes cruises fun - finding there are a few stand-out features that holidaymakers love.

In response to being asked to name the best thing about cruises, a third said it’s the fact that you can visit multiple cities or destinations in a single trip.* But it isn’t just off-shore activities that have people feeling buoyant - 18% of people said their favourite thing about a cruise holiday is the onboard entertainment. Meanwhile, 17% said the absolute best thing is the fact that all the planning and organisation is done for you.

Value for money and the opportunity to meet new people also featured in the top five list of the best things about cruises, while 14% of people asserted there’s nothing better than enjoying bottomless food and drink while on a cruise holiday - regardless of whether you regret it later.

On the other hand, 8% of people surveyed stated they simply don’t like cruise holidays - and nearly three in ten (29%) have never been on one.

Rhys Jones, Go.Compare travel insurance expert, said: “Cruises can be great fun and to those who haven’t yet experienced a cruise holiday, this research shows there are plenty of reasons to consider one - whether it’s the variety of experiences and locations packed into the trip, or all the excitement on board.

“But if you’re thinking about booking a cruise, remember to take a look at specialist cruise insurance, as a regular travel insurance policy won’t offer you the cover you need. Cruises have unique activities and risks included, and cruise insurance is designed to help you if anything goes wrong - for instance, if you’re stuck in your cabin due to bad weather, or need to be airlifted off the ship.”Learn more about cruise insurance, here: https://www.gocompare.com/travel-insurance/cruise-travel-insurance/

About Go.Compare

Go.Compare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.

It does not charge people to use its services and does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. Go.Compare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.

When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. It is this approach to comparing products that secured the company an invitation to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) in 2008, and it is still the only comparison site to be a member of this organisation.

Go.Compare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest and works with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.

Go.Compare is part of Future Plc and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
