Revealed: UK’s favourite dog and cat names for 2025
Luna and Bella continue to reign supreme as the nation sticks with beloved favourites
The UK’s most popular dog and cat names for 2025 have been revealed by Go.Compare pet insurance, and once again, pet owners are falling back on well-loved favourites.*
Luna continues its reign as the nation’s most popular name, securing the top spot for the fifth year in a row for cats, and overtaking Bella as the UK’s favourite dog name.** Meanwhile, Teddy and Milo also remain firmly in the top ten name choices for both.
Willow enters the top ten in the dog names list for the first time, replacing Charlie and joining Daisy and Poppy as another nature-inspired name. Meanwhile, Lola slips another place, having already dropped from fifth place in 2023, suggesting that some popular options may be slowly falling out of favour.***
Among cat owners, pop culture continues to leave its mark, with Loki climbing two places - while Coco and Leo both fall two spots. Notably, Nala returns to the top ten after dropping out in 2024, a resurgence that could be thanks to the release of Mufasa: The Lion King in December 2024, featuring Beyoncé as Nala.

Rhys Jones, Go.Compare pet insurance spokesperson, said: “Pet owners clearly know what they like, and Luna and Bella have now been among the UK’s most popular pet names for several years in a row. While there are some small shifts year on year, the overall lack of movement suggests people are increasingly opting for old familiar favourites when naming their pets.”
With so many pets sharing the same names, Go.Compare is reminding owners that while names may be similar, no two pets are the same when it comes to their care needs.
Rhys explained: “Whether your pet is a Luna, a Milo or a Bella, their health and veterinary needs will be unique. Many owners delay taking out pet insurance, especially when their pet is young, but we can never predict when our pets are going to suffer an injury or illness - so it’s not worth the risk of going without cover. Additionally, securing a lifetime policy early will mean that if any conditions are diagnosed in future, you’ll be covered for any ongoing treatment.
“Vet bills can quickly add up, and once an illness or injury has been diagnosed, it’s usually too late to insure for it. Comparing policies early can help make sure your pet is protected from the start.”

About Go.Compare
Go.Compare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.
It does not charge people to use its services and does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. Go.Compare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.
When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. It is this approach to comparing products that secured the company an invitation to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) in 2008, and it is still the only comparison site to be a member of this organisation.
Go.Compare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest and works with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrateadditional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.
