Serve up Christmas dinner with all the trimmings for less than £5 per person
Research from GoCompare Home Insurance has revealed how shoppers can put together Christmas dinner for a family of four for as little as £19.35*, or £4.83 a head.
The comparison site calculated the cost of Christmas essentials from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Lidl. Unfortunately, the cheapest dinner isn't a one-stop Christmas shop, with families needing to shop around.
Here’s where you need to shop to find Christmas dinner ingredients at the cheapest possible price from the five supermarkets mentioned above:

Georgie Frost, head of consumer affairs at GoCompare, said: “Shopping around can take a little extra effort in the run-up to Christmas but savings are there for those willing to put some time.
“Getting your Christmas veg from budget supermarkets is a great way to save on dinner costs; the produce is just as good at a fraction of the price. And if you’re cooking for lots of guests, why not take the pressure off yourself and your bank balance and get them to bring a dish.
“If you’re more of an online shopper, there are ways to make sure you’re saving too. Online plug-ins like GoCompare's deal-finder will notify you if you could get the contents of your basket cheaper elsewhere.”

About GoCompare
GoCompare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.
GoCompare does not charge people to use its services, and it does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. GoCompare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.
GoCompare does not sell its customers’ data.
When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. GoCompare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest, and has teamed up with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.
GoCompare is the only comparison website to be invited to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
