GoCompare provides free mental health support to life insurance customers

  • Wellbeing support made standard for those arranging life insurance through GoCompare
  • ONS figures show that adults experiencing depression doubled in 2020

From today, customers arranging life insurance through GoCompare can benefit from 12 months of free mental health and wellbeing support as standard.

The comparison site has partnered with Bupa Health Clinics to offer 12 months of free mental health and wellbeing support to all new life insurance customers. Benefits include counselling services, online support and 24/7 helplines.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), almost one in five adults (19.2%) were likely to be experiencing some form of depression in June 2020* - almost double the numbers (9.7%) recorded during the nine months before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

Benefits of Bupa’s mental health and wellbeing support include access to British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, or equivalent accredited counsellors for immediate emotional support with stress management, anxiety and depression, family, health or job worries, bereavement, trauma and more.

Online services also include access to self-help tips and resilience tools, as well as legal, financial and family advice helplines offering expert support for relationship, childcare and elderly care issues, among others.

Sally Jaques, at GoCompare, said: “As uncertainty around Covid-19 and its wider effects on society continue, it has become increasingly clear that, now more than ever, people need help to maintain their mental health.

“At GoCompare, we are always looking for innovative and practical ways to support our customers, and this mental health and wellbeing support is another way to help our customers look after themselves in these uncertain and difficult times. By offering this free support, we hope to make a real difference to those people who are struggling to deal with increasingly complex and challenging lives.”

Alaana Woods, Commercial Director at Bupa Health Clinics, said: “We’re delighted to provide mental health support to GoCompare’s life insurance customers.

“The pandemic has impacted people in different ways and it’s really important that they have access to the necessary care. Our services include counselling and psychotherapy, for immediate emotional support with stress management, anxiety and depression, family, health or job worries, to give people the help they need during this uncertain time.”

GoCompare is the only comparison site to offer this free mental health and wellbeing support for its life insurance customers and it joins the free £250 excess cover GoCompare provide to every car insurance customer, introduced in 2019. Free excess cover provides all GoCompare customers who need to make a claim on their car insurance policy with up to £250 towards their excess when their car insurance claim has been settled.

GoCompare

GoCompare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.

GoCompare does not charge people to use its services, and it does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. GoCompare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.

When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. GoCompare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest, and has teamed up with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.

GoCompare is the only comparison website to be invited to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
