Brits vote Only Fools and Horses’ yellow three-wheeler as their favourite iconic van
Battling it out for the title of ‘UK’s favourite van’, Del Boy drove circles around the A-Team and Ghostbusters
The iconic yellow Regal Robin van from classic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses has been crowned the UK’s favourite pop culture van in a new survey from comparison experts Go.Compare.*
The quirky survey quizzed 2,000 Brits about their favourite vans from popular culture, including Wallace and Gromit’s van and the Royal Mail van driven by classic children’s character Postman Pat.
Taking nearly a quarter of the vote (23%), the Only Fools and Horses van - which reportedly sold for an eye-watering amount at auction last year** - zoomed into first place, followed by the Ghostbusters van (18%) and the Mystery Machine (16%).

The research also uncovered a generational divide - with 18-24-year-olds choosing the Ghostbusters van as their favourite, 25-34-year-olds preferring the Mystery Machine, and 45-54-year-olds favouring the 1980s A-Team van.
Tom Banks, spokesperson for Go.Compare van insurance, commented: “Vans have long featured in popular culture, and there’s a lot of nostalgia when it comes to the UK’s favourites - whether it’s the iconic 1983 GMC Vandura from the A-Team series, or the groovy Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.
“If you happen to have a van in your life off-screen as well, then it’s important to look after it - Only Fools (and horses) would miss a service or forget to compare insurance before it renews.
“Remember that the type of van insurance you need depends on several factors, from how you use the vehicle, to its load weight. For tips on getting the right insurance - and saving some money too - visit: https://www.gocompare.com/van-insurance/guide/top-tips-for-cheaper-van-insurance/.”

About Go.Compare
Go.Compare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.
It does not charge people to use its services and does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. Go.Compare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.
When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. It is this approach to comparing products that secured the company an invitation to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) in 2008, and it is still the only comparison site to be a member of this organisation.
Go.Compare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest and works with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.
Go.Compare is part of Future Plc and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
