Battle of the vans: Dick Van Dyke crowned UK’s favourite ‘celebrity Van’

Beating Vincent Van Gogh, Van Morrison and Denise Van Outen

Legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke, best known for his roles in Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, has been crowned the UK’s favourite ‘celebrity van’ in a new survey from the motoring experts at Go.Compare van insurance.

The comparison site asked 2,000 Brits about their favourite celebrity and fictional ‘vans’, including rock legend Eddie Van Halen and the vampire hunter Van Helsing, famously portrayed by Hugh Jackman in the 2004 film of the same name.

With 22% of the vote, Dick Van Dyke beat famous post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gough for the top spot, who came in second with 18%.*

Musicians Van Morrison and Eddie Van Halen also featured among the top ten, alongside TV presenter and actress Denise Van Outen, and two Dutch footballers - Virgil van Dijk and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Tom Banks, spokesperson for Go.Compare van insurance, commented: “With so many famous vans to choose from, it’s tough to pick a favourite - but we think the top spot is very well deserved by legendary funny man, Dick Van Dyke, who will be turning 100 at the end of the year.

“With artists, sportspeople and even a fictional vampire hunter on the list, there are many famous celebrity vans we know and love - but if you drive a van, it’s important to show some love to your vehicle too. Keeping up with regular services and getting a great insurance policy will help make sure your van doesn’t go Chitty Chitty ‘bang bang’.

“We always recommend comparing van insurance online, as this is a quick and easy way to see how different policies measure up, as well as making sure you get the best price. Remember that the type of insurance you need will depend on your van model, as well as how you use it - so do your research before applying and make sure to answer all questions honestly.”

About Go.Compare

Go.Compare is a comparison website that enables people to compare the costs and features of a wide variety of insurance policies, financial products and energy tariffs.

It does not charge people to use its services and does not accept advertising or sponsored listings, so all product comparisons are unbiased. Go.Compare makes its money through fees paid by the providers of products that appear on its various comparison services when a customer buys through the site.

When it launched in 2006, it was the first comparison site to focus on displaying policy details rather than just listing prices, with the aim of helping people to make better-informed decisions when buying their insurance. It is this approach to comparing products that secured the company an invitation to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) in 2008, and it is still the only comparison site to be a member of this organisation.

Go.Compare has remained dedicated to helping people choose the most appropriate products rather than just the cheapest and works with Defaqto, the independent financial researcher, to integrate additional policy information into a number of its insurance comparison services. This allows people to compare up to an extra 30 features of cover.

Go.Compare is part of Future Plc and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
